Russell Hill, Adviser

Mr. Hill comes from a background in Restaurant Management, Marketing, Publishing, and Education. Prior to Morton ISD, he worked for 9 years with the Lubbock Independent School District as a Technology and Journalism teacher, advising newspaper, web, and yearbook for Coronado High School.  Mr. Hill has been with Morton ISD since 2017.

Prior to teaching, Mr. Hill worked as a webmaster and marketing manager for The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. He holds a Masters's Degree in Education and Instructional Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas Tech University. He currently holds Texas Teaching certifications in History, Journalism, Technology and is a certified Master Technology teacher.

Mr. Hill was named the Texas Classroom Teachers Association Innovator of the Year in 2011 for his work with Coronado Student Media. He was the Coronado Teacher of the Year in 2011. He was awarded a fellowship from the American Society of Newspaper Editors in 2011 to attend Kent State University for the Reynolds High School Journalism Institute. In 2011 he also published a book on the history of Lubbock.

In 2013, Mr. Hill and two of his senior editors at Coronado were the guests of Mr. Scott Pelley, a 1973 graduate of Coronado and the anchor of The CBS Evening News, to attend the Columbia University Summer Journalism Institute in New York City.
In 2016, Mr. Hill was recognized by the Coronado PTA with a lifetime achievement award and was named "Teacher on the Rise" in Lubbock ISD by United Supermarkets, Mrs. Baird's Bakeries, and The Texas Classroom Teachers Association for his work with his students. His work with Coronado Student Media was a feature story on Lubbock ISD TV in 2016. Mr. Hill also served on the review committee for the State Board of Educator Certification in preparing exam questions for the Texas Journalism Teacher Certification Exam.
Currently, Mr. Hill teaches Media Arts for Morton High School. He is a Dual Credit Instructor for South Plains College, the adviser for the Morton yearbook, and the coach of the UIL Journalism team. He also manages the High School Library. His students produce the school's online newspaper, the yearbook, video productions, and other media and public relations materials for Morton ISD.
Affiliations include Journalism Educators Association, Interscholastic Press Conference, National Scholastic Press Association, Quill and Scroll Honor Society, Texas Classroom Teachers Association, Texas Tech Alumni Association, and various other civic and professional groups.
