The play day started early with each grade 3rd grade and up participating in track races. Then the grade levels rotated through stations with a potato sack race, tug of war, golf with plastic clubs, broad jumps, and an obstacle course.

Maverick Galvan did a practice run on the track in his racing wheelchair.  He was establishing his time for entry into Special Olympics.  As he began his run, the kids all chanted his name.

After each grade got to participate in appropriate grade level activities, the crowd went indoors for lunch. A grill had been set up to grill hamburgers and a crew of volunteers cooked all morning. Delicious!

After a brief rest to eat lunch, the students, teachers and parents went back outside to participate in water games. The different grade levels rotated through activities that included a water slide, a water play area that included a small slide, a pool of water and a shower cascading from above, small pools of water holding water for water gun fights, and a slip and slide. The day was breezy and cool, causing the slip and slide to twist in the air. Despite staking it down, it was never in use.

Children exclaimed at the cold temperature of the water and shivered happily after each slide or spray. Several small children wrapped themselves in beach towels between activities. Many participants had rosy cheeks from the day in the sun.

The children were quite worn out after the day of activities, and more than one mom joked that they would sleep well tonight. Parents began taking their children home as they began to get sleepy. It was a wonderful end to the week and beginning to the last week of this school year.
